My dad gave me this for a gift this morning. He is from Seneca Missouri and a cousin says he found it in a field on the farm. Im new enough to know its been worked but wanted opinions on what it is and is it authentic.

I think this is a similar type of tool. I found this near Monet in SW MO. We don’t have tools like this in Central IL, but I’ve seen several examples from SW MO and also AR. I’ve never seen any particular name attached to these. Yours and mine are both made from unheated Burlington flint. It’s very common in several parts of MO.

Maybe a chipped flint are as opposed to hardstone. The shape would work.
Hafted like a celt? Or turned 90° and hafted like an adze? With not much hardstone down in SW MO maybe flint celts are more common. We have way more hardstone here than flint and I never see flint celts in my area.

Looks like flint ax, I use to hunt central Missouri between KC and St Louis...

It looks like a large Adena base to me.

I see a distinctive change in patina along the edges compared to the middle area.
Just my viewpoints.
