I guess I get a little irritated at shows like Gold Rush when they weigh their gold and they tell the audience the spot price when it has not been assayed yet.
My question, based on your experience, what value is raw unrefined gold valued at on average. I know it will vary based on other metals present but what level of disappointment could be expected? I've got a small specific gravity scale. Could it be used to estimate the value doing the math? Not sure.I don't have one of those spectro gadgets laying around.

I wont take less than %80 of spot, but thats on the high end of what most get.It was talked about before what purity that gold up there runs and its not of the "higher",grade,so they are not likely getting spot like they say

I always notice those flakes of black mixed in the gold.

There was one episode where parker got his gold assayed and purified. They showed the process. One of the more interesting things I've seen on the show.

An old Gold Fever show had them at a company that made their gold into a bar and had a lab machine that would tell percentages of other metals and pay accordingly. The company could measure how much copper, platinum, silver, palladium etc. Some gadget.
Eighty percent gold is more than I thought Kuger. That's encouraging.
I wonder if Tom from Gold Fever feels he blew his chance for the notoriety the other shows get. And probably the money too. I know his show was about selling memberships to the GPAA so maybe he did ok.

There is a you tube video showing the whole gold refining process on a small scale. Wish I had the name. Short thin man with a white beard and wire rim glasses showed the process. In real life I would be guessing he is a teacher of some kind, or should be. If you are a good computer searcher maybe you can find it. I found it well worth the time. Maybe one of our family here has the link.
