Saturday I revisited the site where I found a Brown Bess cock/lock piece. It was a plantation in the 18th century & was occupied by British troops for a short period.
Well the new year started out with a bang. I was finding the usual pipe stem pieces & pottery with an occasional brass tack when I hit a good signal a few feet from where I had found the Brown Bess part. I dug the small button & brushed the front off to reveal what I thought was a "60" but later turned out to be a "30"-the British 30th Regiment of Foot. It's pewter and the edges are gone but the shank is intact.
I was pretty stoked-that was my first Rev War button and a bucket list find for me. However, my day was not done...
Not long after that I hit a crisp high signal that turned out to be a quarter cut two real! The second half of the date was on it-32, so it was minted in 1732. This was the second cut real I have found in the last six weeks & both pieces had the date on them.
I finished out the day with a spur stud, a square brass piece that would have attached to leather horse tack and part of a tin-plated brass buckle.
Looks like 2016 is going to be a good year.
