Boomer, I am new to this site and just read your post. I enjoyed it so much I got my Indiana map out along with the letter which had the Indian's account of where the gold is. I read that he said "before I enter the silvery stream I give and bequeath to the white man of Scott County my secret, which Indian has carried locked in his breast for 65 years." When looking at the map I noticed there is a Silver creek to the SW of Lexington and East of highway 65. I wonder if he was leaving clues. maybe when he mentioned "breast for 65 years" he was referring to highway 65.

You need to get a map of Vincennes or Indiana for the year of 1867 in which that Indian would have been 65 yrs old...........Vincennes was the Fur trading post and has a ton of history.

I think he is referring to the Lexington, IN story, which is a long way
from Vincennes.

The Indian who wrote the letter, stated that he gathered as much as he could carry and took it to Vincennes to trade with......evidently he was telling this story in 1867 .......at 65 years of age....If he was Scott County at the time he found it...that is a long haul....
and also , was the route called "65" in 1867? as Wireless mentions in her post above...which I doubt that it was....so the HWY 65 clue would mean nothing....I referred to Vinncennes map ,because there are alot of good maps out there that show the routes from the trading posts across the state in 1867 .

Gypsy Heart I had to laugh outloud at myself on the hwy 65 as a clue, because they did'nt have hwy's back then. Should have given it more thought.

woooo hold the boat kids, actually we have route 64 here in illinois it was in use since 1840s so they were in use, but ,not the same as we think a road is today so they went around natural obsticles toward rivers and groves,inns, post offices,kind of meandered around in as staight a line as possible ,most times following the indian trails and hunting paths ,wagon trails,etc.......

Wireless...I have been doing alot of reading onyour state lately ! You really have some great historic places to hunt! Hope you can hit them all! Where are you located If you are in Scott County, there is a good historical Society there! Lots of cool info! I can help you find maps ...Do you get down by Lake Michigan at all?

I live in the southern most tip of indiana where the ohio river and wabash river meet. I live about 2 hours from that area though. I would like to get up there but my work keeps me pretty busy. I would like to go md at merom bluff in merom indiana because my dad was raised right on the bluff in a little shack. He ran the ferry there for years.
