When Spain was briefly occupied by Napoleon Bonaparte and Carlos IIII had fled into exile, Napoleon made his nephew, Joseph the King of Spain and the Indies and his reign lasted for several years. This is one of the Spanish bust coins coins which were minted with pillars and shield but also having the Napoleonic eagle imposed in the shield center. After the defeat of France in 1812 the original Spanish king was restored and mnost of nthese coins were re melted. A rare foot note to Spain's numismatic history but no collection complete with out one, either.
