I'm still drooling over it...hahaha. So far, I have 5 Colonials for the year. My goal was 4, so I passed it.

I hope I am on a streak. But, I would like to see Paco get the next one. It would be cool.

Re: Rare George Washington Halfpenny (Update: Info from, Don in SJ)

I could slab it for you, Kirkie! My slab method on the halfpenny: two pieces of wheat bread with light mayo, one onion, one tomato, one 1793 George Washington halfpenny, and one heck of an appetite. :D

What I find interesting is that we never had a ship on our coinage until 1937, see a similar one above. Funny enough it was called a Ship halfpenny, wonder if there is a link??

Updated:

Having just read about it, the ship was modelled on a British Token. These were toterated illegal coinage but not offical. So the first time a ship was used on offical coinage was 1937.

Re: Rare George Washington Halfpenny (Update: Info from, Don in SJ)

The real Irony about that Half Penny was that the USA in it's attempt to completely seperate from england didn't want to use the same monitary system. They abandoned the Pennyand went for something a little easier to use. Our dollar is divided into 100 parts called cents, The One Cent is the coin that America has used from the beginning as it's standard of currency,
We don't make pennies, I hope we never do.

Effectively since 1967 when we went decimal we have Cents as well, we just call them Pennies. Before 1967 there was 12 Pence to the Shilling. 20 Shilling in a pound, therefore 240 Pennies to the Pound.
Now we have 100 Pence to the Pound (Cent??)

Re: Rare George Washington Halfpenny (Update: Info from, Don in SJ)

Thinking about it now, I own an awesome piece of American history.
