:hello:

Been a long while since I posted anything on T.Net, metal detecting has taken a back seat in the last four years, but over the last few weeks I have been doing a bit again on one of my old sites, The Medieval Gold Stirup Ring Field.
And I have gone and found one of the rarest coins hammered coins you could find, well at least a part of one. A coin from the the Anarchy....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Anarchy

The coin fragment is of Henry of Scotland son of David1st of Scotland.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_of_Scotland
I recorded the coin with the Fitzwilliam Museum, this is the email I received from Dr Martin Allen..
This is a coin of David I of Scotland's son Earl Henry in the Cross Fleury type, from the Carlisle mint (North 919). The moneyer is probably Wilelm, but two Carlisle coins of this type have been found with the name 'Ricardi'. Here is a link to an article on the subject:
https://www.britnumsoc.org/publications/Digital BNJ/pdfs/2013_BNJ_83_6.pdf

This is ony one of only three found I believe in this type, I have added a picture of a coin of Henry with a slightly different reverse.
Maybe one day I can find a full one...fat chance of that.:laughing7::laughing7:

Nice find Sorry the condition deflated your bag pipes.TP

Nice fish but put them on a mat to protect them:headbang:

It IS the mat. :D

SS, I have truly missed your posts. I hope to see you back on more often. Sad about this coin, but even finding half of one is a major triumph. Chin up--and congratulations. Would've been one of the most valuable coins ever posted on this forum if whole. Just makes me want to get out and dig more. Hope to see you posting again soon.

Best Wishes,

Buck
