:hello:

Been a long while since I posted anything on T.Net, metal detecting has taken a back seat in the last four years, but over the last few weeks I have been doing a bit again on one of my old sites, The Medieval Gold Stirup Ring Field.
And I have gone and found one of the rarest coins hammered coins you could find, well at least a part of one. A coin from the the Anarchy....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Anarchy

The coin fragment is of Henry of Scotland son of David1st of Scotland.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_of_Scotland
I recorded the coin with the Fitzwilliam Museum, this is the email I received from Dr Martin Allen..
This is a coin of David I of Scotland's son Earl Henry in the Cross Fleury type, from the Carlisle mint (North 919). The moneyer is probably Wilelm, but two Carlisle coins of this type have been found with the name 'Ricardi'. Here is a link to an article on the subject:
https://www.britnumsoc.org/publications/Digital BNJ/pdfs/2013_BNJ_83_6.pdf

This is ony one of only three found I believe in this type, I have added a picture of a coin of Henry with a slightly different reverse.
Maybe one day I can find a full one...fat chance of that.:laughing7::laughing7:

welcome back also see what youve been missing

Outstanding find, congratulations! :notworthy:

Facilitating history! Looks like they cut it during the time period to make change.

Incredible even as is. But are you sure you didn't break it because you don't use a probe? ;)

:laughing7: The field had raip seed stubble and had been rotavated, I guess I missed my chance of it being a hole half in the last 14 years of doing this field.

I popped in from time to time, but I must say I lost the passion of going, but it's coming back.:icon_thumleft:

Nice find! :icon_thumleft: Might be a whole one out there still!

Congrats on the rare find. Even though it's broken- it exists and you found it. I call that a success.

Just a shame I couldn't save it before the break :BangHead:

That is special, shame about the damage but we can't always have it our way. That would sure fill a big hole in my Scottish collection (tiny collection)!

Hope you keep posting more great finds in the near future.

maybe in your country, but
not a heartbreaker in my book.
I believe These coins were Made for Tearing apart.
or at least it was expected.

I love & prefer finding Pieces of Coins.

it's Just like finding a Piece of 8 imo

Part of History, Even if worn Smooth :coffee2:
