Hey all!

Dug this thing yesterday in an old farm field in CT that gave up a Connecticut copper in the past. It was on "What's This" but now that it's identified, I figured I'd post it here:

Turns out to be a Hard Times Token from 1834. The man on it is Gulian C. Verplanck - a NY politician who was a member of the House of Representatives.

The token reads: GULIAN C. VERPLANCK OUR NEXT GOVnr
and on the reverse: FAITHFUL FRIEND TO OUR COUNTRY

I LOVE the eagle! It reminds me so much of the back of a seated quarter, I thought I found my first seated ever (next time!).
Here's what an undug version looks like:

According to this site it has a rarity index of 100 (out of 100) so maybe it's a good one.

Not sure I'll do too much cleaning, it's already starting to flake as it dries.

HHGL everyone!

Killer find, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

I don't have much knowledge about tokens but I do know that is a great find! Congrats and it has a pretty good amount of detail left too!

Very nice find. I found one ( different variety ) a few years ago and had no clue what it was. The great people on this forum ID'ed it for me.
