Yeah that's what I'm thinking. It sits half way up a 2,000 ft Mt. overlooking the Roanoke river. It took a lot of effort they must of dropped something behind.

I tend to lean towards it being a very old ruin. Going by the pic I would guess older than 1800s. I like a range with quarried blocks and no mortar of late 1600s to mid 1700s. Check all old growth trees nearby, they liked to put there money stashes where they could see it from the house so big trees nearby could payoff. Also lots of times the root celars were made of stone block with a wooden main house. You could be looking at the remains of the cellar. I could be way off on that assessment, but I know I would be shoulder to shoulder with you digging if I could !! Good luck, keep us posted !! Looks like a great opportunity.

Hey AARC your a chart/map guy. Look what I found yesterday. Ive been rummaging around on some hurricane wrecks, and on one sail boat I found a bunch of chart tubes that were full of charts and maps. Rolled up with some charts were 2 of these !!!Screenshot_2018-03-18-10-32-57.png 64$ per sheet of 2 dollar bills !!! First thing that popped in my head was "I bet AARC has found some good finds while collecting charts"

HELP....How old is it ? I'm going to be hitting this old structure in a week or so w/MD. Any ideas how old it is.I don't see any cement type mortar. View attachment 1565872View attachment 1565873View attachment 1565874

Dandy buttons, horse tack, shoe buckle, pre CW coinage, a barrel tap, Crotal bell, and a cut piece of silver. (certainly not cut from being through a lawn mower)
Best of luck on the hunt, and hunt it to the waters edge as it was probably the transportation corridor.
