The red arrow shows the trace of an old wagon road, as seen from the mountains in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada - The Southern Route, which branched off the Oregon Trail, was pioneered by Levi Scott during 1844-1847, it was a search for a much DRIER way into the Willamette Valley, versus rafting down the mighty Columbia River ....!
This road is better known as the Applegate Trail, however there is movement afoot, to get the records
set straight. and get the name changed....
