An earlier pic. AARC posted.
Not sure where it was made...but reminds me of the Venetian glass trade around Murano (eventually moved to the island...a fire hazard thing) having had a strict code of proprietary protection.
Those in the guild who defected could expect their families /relatives to turn up dead as a result of the "salamander".
When bead makers were courted in recruitment efforts in the young colonies in North America they faced that very real risk.
Somewhere there is documentation stating the workers /enterprise over here were cautioned to not produce too great a quantity of goods and by doing so undervaluing them , so pressure on all sides...just some more forbidding.

I might point out the is also a response that comes to mind from me were I confroted with that statement...
Something along the lines of...
"I was just wondering how much for that dead horse" ?...
***After the price***
"how much to deliver it" ? ...
***after said delivery price***
"Fine... Its a deal then... Deliver it to this address (fictitious address) and I will pay you double "...
"Hurry now".
If that did not work...
I would just say "beat it... scram... ya bother me kids". (then run covering head from rocks)
Hope is they are not totally hip to a con out of a corner yet. heh
