If you enjoyed Audubon's work, you may also like Charles Beckendorf... As a naturalist, his main focus was Texas wildlife stills... In his day a large amount of his work was used by Lone Star and Pearl Brewing companies, as well as the state periodicals such as 'Texas Game & Fish'.

The National Park Service commissioned Kerrville-based artist Roy Andersen to paint these two pieces. Neither were approved by the NPS for print releases, but both are featured as wall murals at the visitors center at Pecos National Park. A large portion of his work can be seen in the Smithsonian, as well as featured on US Postal Stamps.

A really cool coincidence, is that Roy Andersen was also responsible for the theatrical-release poster of my absolute favorite film:

One of my most-prized material possessions is a custom framed 1976 original of this poster that i was fortunate to have signed by Andersen. Clint Eastwood has always been my favorite actor, and this film was based on my favorite book of all time - 'Gone To Texas' by Forrest Carter... So it's like a triple-coincidence that all three things merged like that.

1st Cavalry Division Horse Detachment.

These guys made all the color casing ceremonies and change of commands worth it.

If your unfamiliar with the 1CD "Cav Charge" tradition, you can check out the (way less dramatic than when seen in person) video below.

When that M1841 Mountain Howitzer goes off, your short hairs stand up for sure.

This man has done more for Texas History than most can dream of:
38825e48893d4034ebe99d0fcbd6a0cd.jpg

Last year, Phil Collins donated his private collection of Texas Revolution artifacts to the Texas GLO. The collection is the largest of its kind, and he personally financed the transportation of the 200+ pieces from his home in Switzerland to San Antonio. A facility will be constructed (on donations alone) in the vicinity of Alamo Plaza to display the collection in its entirety.

Collins, with a beautiful example of a J. Black knife with irrefutable provenance linking it to the TX Revolution:

If you are interested, i highly recommend checking out this publication... The book has been said to feature the absolute finest photography available at the time of its release, and features many illustrations by Gary Zaboly... If your a Texas Revolution buff, you know his work.

To some folks, an $85 book is steep. If you are on the fence about buying a copy - let me know and i'd be happy to send you some photos of the contents - It is well worth twice the amount.

Apparently, Collins is/was also a somewhat accomplished musician - 'Genesis' or something like that... I don't know, I'm only 29, haha!

Fort Churchill, Nevada. It's a state park, and was a Civil War fort. The reason Nevada's motto is "Battle Born," is because the Union wanted all that silver, and Nevada was voted into the Union in 1864. This fort was there for that reason.
