The shank style leads me to believe 1800 or slightly older. Very nice find!
Can you read the back? I can only make out a few letters.

Yep, 'BURTON PIERCE'. Can't find much history on the company but they sold various non-military uniforms and buttons, with catalogues saying they were in New York, Boston, and Chicago. Most of their buttons seem to be from the late 1800s or first part of the 1900s.
