It's made of brass and all I could figure out is that M.K.&T stands for Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad. I don't know what the tag was used for or what the "887 local" is. I think it might be the name of a train#/local train line#. I doubt it is the name of a labor union, but it could be. Found in Farmers Branch, TX near the railroad tracks.

It is likely a railroad baggage tag. Local refers to a train running locally as opposed to interstate. I don't know the age though. If in fact you have the initials figured out correctly, maybe the internet will help. Nice find. Actually I think local means it stops at all the towns along the way.

I believe you are correct based on this. It is a baggage tag used on local routes and no other railroad used the M.K.&T logo other than Missouri Kansas & Texas line based on this. Now I need to figure out what the age is.

Creskol - Thanks. Very cool and one mentioned that metal tags were used "in the early decades of the 20th century". cool.
