just to let you know i didn't find anything but some black sand. Anyways today i was bored so i decided to man up and go gold panning. In 32 degree weather, with a inch of ice on the ground. Ok so now that we have established that I am crazy im going to continue. I got down to the creek, panned a few then quit cuz my hands felt like they would fall off. As i was leaving I thought of something. Now i have seen miners moss for sale and watched some videos on it capturing gold but what about the real thing. Would it be a good idea to pan though the moss or alge that grows on rocks. Anyways thats my Q for you more experienced gold panners.

Yes! Crush and pan the moss. I've always found gold in moss. If gold is in the area it's in the moss on the rocks too. If you take the moss home, dry it, then crumble and pan is the easiest way to deal with the moss I've found. Don't know about the algae though...
