You need to send me all your finds for a year...then you are on probation for five years afterwards....you do get to keep all pull tabs tho! ;)

Just kidding
Some parks and state owned property require permits and some are totally off limits. Clubs are not mandatory ,but would link you up with fellow detectorists who know the ropes. Most places are extremely picky on digging holes in manicured lawns,so always respectthe property you are digging...even in the forests.
What ever state you go to , make sure you know their rules. What state are you moving to?

The island (Jantzen Beach) between Washington and Oregon was an old amusement park for a long time, it is now malls but you may still find a spot that is empty of parking lots or buildings....

There are some old parks in the St. Johns district.

Don't hunt on Historic Landmark Property (should be posted) or National/Federal land.

Powell's books in Portland is huge and has all kinds of old reference stuff to look at and do some research with...

Good luck up there!

Tiger, best bet is to find an area first, then see who is in charge. Contact the local office of where it is you want to search.

National Forest- check with the Forest service

BLM- check with their regional or local office.

State Park, etc. same thing.

City and county parks, check with the parks and recreation dept.

All are listed in the phone book, most are just fine to detect.

National parks and monuments, as someone noted earlier, are off limits.
