Thanks Paratrooper, although I recognized it as a masonic symbol, Im obviously not very familiar with it. It seems as though Ive seen them but not with the "G"......JO

Nice find! You might ask around the area's mason's. Bet they could tell you the story behind it.And you might make some good friends.

No Mike, its much more than that! Jopher hit the trifecta of palm readings! A long life-line,defined love-line and a deep treasure-line! I expect we're going to see some significant finds from this source!

That's a large Masonic badge. Can't really date it from the photo. The Detroit Lodge was one of the largest in th country at one time, perhaps they could be of assistance. Some Masonic relics are highly desirable by collectors.

:) The symbols on the masonic piece have deep significance for the order. If I remember correctly, it all goes back to the builders of the temple in Jerusalem. The compass siignificies the all truth comes from God (the circle). The square signifies that you will be faithful in all things.

There are many symbols in Freemasonry. The square and compasses with the "G" in the middle is the most commonly known. The "G" was a more recent addition, around the 1850s or so. That could be from any number of things, a necklace, collar jewel, staff header, etc... Your find looks to be a more modern design and probably doesn't have significant monetary value, but to a serious scholar of Masonry may find it interesting.
