Metal Detecting
I was wandering if there are no signs that prohibit digging or trespassing at a cemetery is it legal to metal detect there? I live in Pennsylvania. If anyone has information about this please let me know. We get the dirtiest looks sometimes when we are metal detecting in an old cemetery.

This has been discussed many times here. It is against the law to desecrate a grave/cemetery plus it is poor etiquette. Just because a cemetery does not post a sign that says" No Digging" common sense would say not a good idea. I can see why you would receive dirty looks.
Hope this helps your moral dilemma and welcome to t-net.

Do a search for cemetery here, you will find lots of posts on it. It is a real touchy subject, I have locked a lot of threads on it because they can turned nasty.......

If I was to see someone digging by my grandparents grave I would be up set. It just don't look good all around.

If it's legal to do so, I'd still be discreet about it. Search at off hours and keep a low profile. Use only shallow digging tools (no shovels!) and do a clean, surgical recovery. Personally, I have no problem with it as long as you're respectful a don't leave a mess. Most cemeteries use weed whackers and lawn mowers over the tops of the grave sites.....is that any better or worse than recovering a coin? They also use an aerator now and then which punches holes into the sod. I mean, it's not as if you're punching holes into the top of the casket with your digger. They are several feet down you know.

Please post videos of the cemetery searches so I can see how this is done?
