Pull tabs our friend

Pulltabs are great, they are one of our best assets. Here are the reason's why. First off they protect the real treasures in the ground for those willing to look for them. Most people will give up when they hit a area that produces so many, or they turn up the discrimation to not have to bother with them. This leaves lots of good targets in the ground for those willing to go the extra mile. Second when out searching we get ask if we are finding anything. We pull a few nice bent up pulltabs out of the pouch. The person sees them and figures there is nothing there and lets us hunt in peace. Little do they know about the items in our other pocket or pouch. These folks also fail to put two and two togather to figure why we keep coming back to that spot full of pulltabs. Lots of pulltabs are a sign this area is ready for you!

Most non detectors think we are crazy anyway.
I do go by your advice, re, pulling out trash and zinc pennies when the curious ask. If you do have something good, they will resent it.
Also, I had a close call once, and believe only that long, stainless steel digger in my hand kept me from being robbed. Why give them motive?
Also, if you do show them something nice, next thing you know is they want to talk about detecting. Sorry, but my field time is valuable!
Kids seem especially curious. I had a Garrett Grand Master Hunter CXIII years ago, the talking detector? Unbelievable kid magnet. Taught me the necessity of headphones.
I dont mind clad. When I do not have a lot of time, I will hit the playgrounds and scarf up the easy clad. Wifey and I did this for part of a summer, and found a couple hundred dollars in clad. A retired detectorist, with some free time, could easily pay for his detector, even an expensive one, in 1-2 years, just with clad.
But dont tell anyone!

What we need to do is find an organization that will donate money in return for our pull tabs...then we as a group could really make alot of money for some charity by sending in our pull tabs? Maybe there is one out there allready? What do you guys think?

Many grade schools save pull tabs and trade them in for supplies. I'm not sure who sponsors them or how it works but my daughter-in-law said she would take all I could dig up! She is working at a school where she is getting her internship done for her teaching certificate. Monty

same page as you free or you pull some half corroded zincs my reply when people ask what you find i show them the garbage pouch sept the time i did that to the carny owner who was the boss says whats in the other one,and pulled out 17 in clad from his "vomittron" he was like sheesh those guys running that are slipping...

I one time was detecting and an old lady come walking down the sidewalk. She asked if i had found anything, and i just moments before dug the Dahlonega coin up. Guess what i pulled out of my pocket? Bet nobody believed her when she got home.

My mother wanted to see some tapes from Xmas past and I pulled out an oldie and cued it up only to find my teenage sons had been experimenting with duplicating some porn they thought I'd never find! Mom kinda' looked shocked at first but merely said,"Well, it looks like you guys had a VERY merry Christmas that year"! My Mom was cool! Monty

You're right--so many great finds are close to tabs.

One thing one learns fast in this game is you don't brag about all you're finding when a land owner or bystanders approaches. That's one of the quickest ways to talk yourself right out of a hunting spot. But of course I still do it

Have you ever shown an old pulltab from the seventies to a kid? Thay have no clue what it is. my buddies kids didnt believe me when I told them what it was and that when I was a kid (im 33 btw) we used to go looking for them and see who could make the longest chain out of them. Once we got tired of the chain we would take them to a nearby park and burry them for safe keeping.

PS. In a few hundred years I'll bet you'll see posts on this forum about how many great pulltabs someone found and replys like "great job!" "man your lucky! I havent found any of those yet"
