well I am currently unemployed and cant find work in iowa where im at so I have decided to try my hand at prospecting this summer in the black hills of south Dakota. I was wondering if anyone has any tips or ideas of where to go. and also would it be smart to get a GPAA membership before heading out there for the summer?

The main thing the fs is worried about is amatures coming out and tearing things up. In my poo on one claim i discribes what I would be using for equipment and my reclimation stockpiling plan. I actually got a letter back thanking me for telling themof my reclimation plan. You are probably right about when they may contact the state. They do go out and check on claims. I have a neighboring claim they watch very close. The owner came in and was totally tearing things up and talking material to another location to sluice. They were on him like flies on stink. Closed him down for six months. They then checked out my claim and I never heard a word from them. Anyway like I said it depends on who you talk to, a tree hugger will tell you what you was told and someone who actually knows will say something totally different. I agree it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
