probe or pinpointer ?

I'm a newbee, but I've got one of the old Whites Bullseye pinpointers that I bought on eBay. For coins up to an inch deep I usually can get it with a screwdriver with a hole the size of the coin itself.

I like them both. I find the target with my detector. Pinpoint it and then use the probe to flip it out of it's hiding place.....
I have a whites Bullseye II and I also use a old screw driver with a rounded point. For deeper targets you will need something to cut a plug and then pinpoint.

The ground has been so hard and even if it rains the soil has a high clay content. It's like trying to poke around in bubble gum. Trying to flip a coin out with a probe is hopeless under those conditions. I've just had to learn how to dig a plug that I can refill the hole and make it almost invisible most of the time. I have a pinpointer that has helped a lot in locating coins in the hole and in the diggings that are nearly invisible because of tarnish and being almost the same color as the soil. Works for me.
