at first I thought it was a Bayonet but after doing a little research I don't think so anymore. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. I found it in the front yard of a house built in the later 1800's. Supposedly Quantrel camped close to this property before the raids on Lawrence, KS

I think it is solid brass.

It's a lightning rod tip.

Appreciate the response, I was just wondering how sure you were. This is made of Brass and I thought lightning rods were made of copper.

I don't know either way.

Just a thought but if it is garden hose thread size, it is just and end stake for a do it yourself (or store bought extension) soaker hose. It even looks like part of the old gasket is still in there.

Cheers

Here is a close up of the inside of the threads. As you can see there is no opening for water. The end is too small for a water hose and the entire thing is solid.
