How's it going folks?
I'm new to metal detecting. The wife and I bought our first detector about 3 weeks ago. At the time, the Garrett Ace 350 made the most financial sense for us. After taking it out for the next 3 days it didn't take us long to realize how handy a pointer would be. So we drove back to Cabelas and bought a White's pin pointer. We searched a few review hundred reviews online before purchasing (it did cost more than the Garrett pin pointer). Three weeks later and we've found roughly $3.00 in modern change and probably 200 lbs of iron. I've been digging every solid signal I swing over but haven't found anything too interesting yet, other than some neat old horse shoes and a few mystery items, some of which seem lead based.
I live in Bartow County Georgia and I believe the reason I haven't found anything worth talking about yet is simply due to the places I currently have to hunt. Although I feel that I'm getting close to some old home sites due to the finds (square nails, tills, a few coins from the 60s etc.) I don't believe have currently have a truly great spot. But I'm going to keep at it. You never know until you drop the spade and see what's under there.
If anyone in North Georgia is interested in meeting up for a hunt, I'd be appreciative and it'd definitely help me learn much faster.
Thanks folks. Looking forward to exploring these forums.
