Prison Riot Blues 40 years later

New Mexico Prison riot.
Yesterday and today my thoughts have been on my visit to Hell 40 years ago.
12 gaurds were taken hostage, several severely beaten and raped.
33 prisoners were executed as we listened from outside.
200 were injured.
I was there, firefighting, searching for dead and wounded, transporting victims and perpatrators to hospitals. Even helped recapture a supposedly comatose instigator who jumped up and said "I'm outta here" when we unstrapped him from the stretcher at the Indian hospital.

My best friend, an assistant attorney general, prosecuted the perpetrators and was assasinated for his trouble 10 years later. I miss you Mike.
I stand today strong against racism and hate.
United we stand, divided we fall.

That was a horrible riot, i spent 25 years working in a prison myself. But as many riots as i experienced, none was a brutal. Prayers and good thoughts for all the lost staff and their families.
