Pretty Ugly Victorian Pin ?

Well, I didn't find this old pin today, it was a couple weeks back. I did just clean it up though and it's most likely worthless. I was hunting this piece of ground that joins an old Church yard. Church dates back to 1802. Anyhow this was in the area where the folks used to park there wagons and cars later on. I posted it because I thought it was pretty yet ugly. How old do you think it is? If it had plating on it I'd think it was more modern but it appears to be some sort of copper mix maybe. The stones our what ever they are I'm not sure. Can't find any writing on back. I was just amazed at the detail once it was cleaned up. It's about the size of a half dollar. Only good thing found today was a clean 1963 d Roosevelt Dime and a bent up clad Qtr.]

Hope the pictures aren't too big. I got a little close trying to capture the detail.

Have a Goodin' Y'all

Are you sure there is no writing? It may be the photo but it's looks like it may be lettering on the back?

Yesterday National Geo. channel had a show re: Nostradamus and his drawings. They mentioned that the 8 spoke wheel or star shows up in a number of historical documents. It has some sort of celestial significance. The center of your medialion looks very much like the sketch that was shown, the stones may even represent stars or planets. BTW, I don't know Jack S*** just an observation. Might be fun to do a search to see if this symbol has some sort of historical significance.

very interesting opinion, I'm sure I'll be studying this piece for a while to come. Thanks

I agree with what is said above about the pin back on the brooch. When I first saw it, it reminded me of some costume jewelry I have recovered from early 1800's sites...but I think the pin back gives it away as a newer piece. It is certainly pretty. Not too often that we get to recover something that is any color other than brown, black, or green.

Congrats!
