Love all the grab bag goodies my husband gets in boxes of relics. Its amazing people just toss stuff like this in . I'm guessing this is around five inches long, its pretty large in my hand.

Might look very nice cleaned up. I see some bent parts, but nothing jumps out at me as missing. It is truly treasure in your hands :)

I was off in my measurements, its two and a quarter inches long.i think its very pretty too CC Hunter, thanks for the ID.I'm guessing it is thin brass .It has a slight reddish tinge to it like old brass does sometimes.

You rang? :laughing7: Yeppers, you have a ladies Victorian sash buckle. Some of these had prongs on a single bar (sometimes double bar) and other had 2 bars like yours. Judging by the filigree motif, I'm going with 1870s to late 1880s. Have you tried to clean it yet?

Neat find!

I don't want to part with it so the mister may just have to buck up and let me keep it.i haven't tried to clean it because I'm not 100% sure what material it is and its very thin. What do you suggest? Thanks again for your help with this and the little doll head.

I'm very hesitant to give advice on cleaning since I can't see the buckle in person; therefore, not sure of the material. It may be stamped brass. Does a magnet attract it? You may want to try to clean one small area by dipping it in a solution of lemon juice and salt, leaving it in a minute or so. Remove, then check to see if the solution is working, if so continue dipping/soaking until it reaches the desired affect.

I'll check tommorrow and see, I think we have a magnet somewhere in the garage. It's actually not super thin.i may get my husband to do a test clean with the lemon juice in an inconspicuous place.
