Good day today in Ky! Ground was way too hard to dig, but managed to come up with three good digs out of 8 total for the day. If anyone knows what the silver badge looking item is feel free to ID it has stumped me for the night. Google isn't helping much tonight Haha

good digging everyone

Yah, those ARE interesting, ted ! I would say a pretty good day, alright!
It seems you have a pretty good spot... be sure to work it again, from different directions, and when the wx changes the ground conditions...
Never can tell when the little molecules may react a bit different leading you to discover some choice target that might have been missed.
...you have proven the site has good potential!

Thank you sir. I will def go back when the ground softens up a bit. That last bit of cold air froze everything!

Whats on the other sides of those finds, could you post some more pix? Nice work, I like the looks of those finds, that spot seems to me to be promising. Good luck to you, keep us posted.

nice finds, your first piece is a harness tip , second and third look like dandy buttons, but the shinier one in the pic resembles a rosette I have seen, can you post a pic of the backs of these two items?

Here is the back of all three finds. image.jpg

Your middle one is a cloak button, which usually pre-date the 1800's in the US. By coincidence, I found one in Germany two weeks ago! Here's mine:

Yours is in much better shape than mine and while yours has a hoop in the back, mine was made to be sewn onto the garment through holes in the button.

Nice finds!

That's awesome to know you found one in Germany makes you really wonder! If you can see the front of mine I actually put a small dent in it since the ground was like a rock yesterday (Happens), but thanks for you reply. The front design of both yours and mind resemble each well.

Travis:
When I first dug mine, I thought that it was just a piece of junk metal and almost threw it out. Then I cleaned it up and saw the pattern on it. I posted a picture of it on another MD website and a member there ID'd it for me right away. The pattern is quite similar! Strange for being separated by 5,000 miles, huh?!

finding Big colonial buttons in Kentucky can be hard to do, especially in frozen ground. Congrats and maybe with the ground thawed you will bring out some spanish silver next trip.

ODA: yes that's absolutely wild to know the possible miles between the two. I actually accidentally struck the button and put a small ding in it but it happens when the dirt is so dang hard.
Nova: yes some silver would be great. The amount of pottery and glass on the farm is plentiful . I am going to post all my finds on my profile soon. I do have a piece that you would probably want to look at. Let me know what you dig up next !

These Dandy Buttons were manufactured in Britain from 1750-1780s, they do turn up all over Europe (maybe copied) & in the colonies.

The leather mount is probably 18th C but I guess they still used them in the 19th C?

When I first saw those finds I thought they looked very similar to what I find in Kentucky. That's a very old site you got there colonial looking, congrats
