pre-WWI button??

I was out hunting and found this general service button, 2 piece, sewn on, there are no markings on back, i know from my button book its pre 1902. there are 13 stars around top of button but below the eagle is a word i can't make out entirely the first letters are
EX?R and the last are S?OR i believe,

It appears to say "EXCELSIOR," which would make it a New York button of sorts. That is all I know, sorry.
