The goat things look like they are from Israel. Some of the others, maybe Aztec or other Amerindian, and some (like the tea pots) look like snooty tooty arteeist, but after WWIII. Do you know any history? Was your greatgrandpa a Indiana Jones type, perhaps? Some of this kind of thing was easier to export in the early 1900's, just a little green to grease the skids.

By the way, I am not an art historian, but I played one on TV.

person who had owned them spent most of his life in the middle east and shipped them home from there a long time ago.

That explains a lot. What part of the middle east? Several of the pieces are very interesting, for as much as I can see. Did he do any digging or were these market purchases? I do particularly like the candlestick.

He lived in Iran and worked with the Shah till he was over thrown but travelled all over the middle easter and asia as part of his job. Not sure where he got them, wasn't really allowed to talk much about his time overseas. These where still in a sealed crate that was shipped back to him in the early 80's.

This is just a example of the stuff that is there (these are the ones that where taken to the museum for them to look at, they would have someone appraise them but costs a lot more then we can afford lol..

The story gets more interesting! The Shah was known as a generous man to his friends. Even if it went out of Iran, I wonder about US customs. They sieze antiquities, unless the paperwork was right, but maybe everything. Of course, it could have had some diplomatic papers. More information!!! The more you share, the more interesting it gets. Perhaps he was holding them for the Shah? His "not allowed" mumness may say a lot.

he did work for the goverment, the people he worked with said that he like to pick up antiques he found interesting. I don't know exactly where he got them, the museum that is looking into them said one of them is part of a series of 5 that is believed to exist but they have only found 2 (now 3). they still have the items and are trying to date them and have asked us to donate them.

I know in his stuff there was a coin that we had no idea what it was and turns out it was given to him by the Shah who gave them to his inner circle and was a medallion not a coin (we sold that to the guy who gave us all the info).. He did go back to the middle east a couple times after 1980 but this was all picked up before (not sure if he bought it all or found some)..

That platter must be huge! Actually, there is a guy out there on TN than can take your photos and put them back to size. I bet he will do that if you ask him. I would really like to see the whole thing.
