I know alot of you have seen this before.. my purpose for posting it now .. is with all the new faces I was wondering if anyone else has come across this rare type of artifact. I have only seen a photo of one other that belongs to TomClark. And I wish that was a better photo. Either way If you have a plummet That is somehow odd or made of a strange material please post it.

Nice plummet! Glad you posted it again since I am one of those newcomers that didn't see it the first time around.

I read where the one like you have was worn like a Pendant. It was on a site that was selling them. So I cant remember which site I saw it, sorry

Thank you... it actually looks like it was made from a Chard from a pottery vessel.

I have shell but no stone..haha

Haha.. Hey what's up Tom!? Nice finds there! Looks like you threw in a photo of that pottery plummet also. I have a couple questions... do you think the fossil plummet is Dugong rib? Also.... on the pottery pendant.... does it show the layers of the pottery on the edges? Or is it one consistent color as if it is not broken? I ask because I have so many drilled pieces broken in different shapes some being worn down on the edges but still visibly broken.

But then I have these.. none of which are broken

Yours for sure looks like a pendant. I'm mostly just posting these because I've seen people try to sell these as pendants.. a few more broken pieces.

Yes, I think it's dugong rib bone. The pendant has worked/smoothed edges and doesn't have the "layers" that some pottery has. But I think it was made on a broken sherd that had the design on it and the pottery was fired right and had the right mixture so that it doesn't have an inner layer. Even the hole might have been an original mending hole.
I have a few sherds that have three holes for mending and a few that fit together hole to hole with another piece. The pottery plumment doesn't have layers either. Holey Potsherds!

Hey..Thanks.. Batman... Three's a crowd anyway.

That pottery pendant is rad! You can see the sides have been worked down to the desired shape. Rad!!

Isn't it! The only two I have are round but broken in half. My buddy found a whole one the same day...his is check stamped perfectly round disc pendant drilled in the center... DANGIT!

What is a plummet?

Gator, I have an almost whole round disc like your second picture and the folks I hunt with out west refer to it as a whirl (toy), Its made out of broken pottery with a hole in the middle.

Neither of those are broken. I have loads of broken pottery With drill holes. These pendants are well documented in my area.

Gator, that last post for me?

The one I have is broken pottery that had the edges rounded much like game pieces.

What is a plummet?

Alot of broken pieces could fool someone if they didn't know what to look for or didn't get a very close look. these are all broken pot chards.

The question what is a plummet... should be a thread all its own.... there is no positive answer that I know of.
