Here is a pottery piece that I bought at an estate sale in WVa. about 30 years ago. It was stated that theowner had got it during a trip to the middle east around 1927. There was also some american indian pottery pieces at the auction which sold while I was at the hot dog stand .The spout has been reattached to the main body of the vessel. I have no idea about the use of this piece or if it did come from the middle east or if it is an american indian piece.Anybody got any clue? Thanks Bob

Thanks Gypsy,That was my innital thought also , but when I looked inside I could see no evidence of oil residue and it is an unglazed piece .There is also some faint design on the front of it that I can't figure out. It has the appearance of a dug piece although since I didn't dig it who knows. Bob

suwannee,
I'd guess that the pitcher was for serving small quantities of something that was thick in viscosity like honey, olive oil, syrup. The vent opposite the spout gives me this impression.

I would not think this item was American Indian.
