This is going to sound dumb....but what exactly is a potted cigar....is it because its wet.....is it wet? Is it kept in water? or does it sit in something else and water surrounds them?

Little more info.

Tony

Pottery jar reusable as a humidor used by
A.C. Brenckle of Milwaukee, Fact. 288, 1st WI.
Lid was hollow, cork plugged, and could be filled with water to keep cigars from drying out, c1900.

My "Guess" just like you would see a Jar of Cigars in an old Saloon or store This would have been used the same way.

Potting them keeps them fresh; i.e. a humidor. I am just guessing, but being a clay pot, the humidor may have been soaked in water and would then prevent the ceegars from drying out!

According to the information on my previous post, the LID was filled with water.
