Posting for a friend - Buckle?

Hey everyone, I'm posting this for a friend. Other than the Ike for size reference, I don't know much about the piece itself.

Allegedly, it was found in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains in an area with pre-Revolutionary War history relating to General John Sullivan's actions against the Iroquois Nation.

The two flanges positioned opposite from each other on the long sides of the oval indicate the object is a Colonial-era shoebuckle. The oval's size is also about right for that ID.

The flanges held the ends of the crosspin. In the photo below, the crosspin-holding flanges aren't as big, but they're clear enough to show you what I'm talking about.
