I've heard of them being found but that's the only one I've dug in 40 years of mding so it's rare to me.

Here are some 1700 era coppers with holes.

1724 King George I Halfpenny

A rather holey Unknown 1700 copper

1730 King George II Halfpenny

Late 1790s Large Cent

​

And one that brought a tear to the eye when found because of the hole
A 1797 Half Cent 1 over 1 variety.

I found this beauty in the same hole as a mystery chunk of iron at a very pounded Civil War camp site. I can only imagine how many times that signal was passed up by other detectorists(including myself) because of the iron in the hole. Sometimes it pays to dig iffy signals

Here are my "square" holed coins. First one is unidentified, found in 1740's yard. And the 2nd in my 1787 CT copper. Whats up with the square holes? Also, here is a neatly designed "dandy" button. The shank must have came off many moons ago and someone drilled a couple holes in it to fix the problem.
