Curious if I should try to clean these coins I found on the beach or not. And how much they could possibly be worth. They are Fort Sheridan Post Exchange tokens, one is 10 cents the other 25 cents.

I probably would try some of the methods suggested by others in cleaning them (olive oil, lemon juice, etc.) but I really have no experience with coins and saltwater, so wait for a better answer. I have got 6-8 bucks each out of Mess tokens before, but I think they were more modern than these. Token & Medal Inventory He has a couple at $31 to $35. He might be the guy to ask about value also.

Penny--Sounds like you need to look some more at that beach! I wouldn't try to clean them with anything more than a toothbrush and water. Probably when these were discontinued at the PX, they were thrown into Lake Michigan. I have heard of similar finds from a fort in my state washing up on the beach after spending a century in the lake. Vacketta's Trade Tokens of IL book shows 5¢ and 10¢ bi-metal tokens from Fort Sheridan but not the 25¢ denomination. He says "rarity 4" which is 10-20 known. R-4 tokens were estimated at $2 to $3 at that time, but these have the added factors of being military and bimetal, but the condition is a subtracting factor. His book is over 30 years old. All three denominations are on TokenCatalog.com. Cunningham's Military Tokens book lists all three denominations of bimetal tokens and shows an estimated $100 price, but keep in mind that is for pieces in relatively nice condition.

Thank you all. I did soak both in olive oil for a week , picture of the two in my hand was the outcome of soaking them.
I actually found them a month from one another on the same beach with the naked eye. I'm thinking of taking the metal, a cheapy I have, down there to see if I could find more.
Lake Michigan has provided me with many interesting finds in the five years we have been stationed here.
