I have 2 modified general purpose digging tools that make use of 1" Neodymium magnets...

I use both tools when i dig/sift points, fossils, bottle digging (not as glorious around here!) or comb through known relic deposits... when i go 'exploring' around here i usually take one or the other.

One is an old US-manufactured potato rake that i put a new handle on & cut down to 20" and then shortened/sharpened/swept the tines inward at a sharper angle. I attached a 1" cup magnet to the base of the handle.

The second tool is its identical twin, except it was an old US-made hoe head that i pared down to a wedge shaped mini-pick... i will post a photo of it up when i get back to the house today.

For reference, the magnets will easily pick up a t-post - which is more than sufficient for my purposes.

The loop and knot are doubled....the rope is 75 feet.
Maybe only needed 25 feet.

Ah, I see -

I'm going to have 2 ropes - shorter for direct dock dips, longer for wild hunting off bridges - and a leash for dirt dragging.

I use a modified hangmans noose with turnbuckle and quick link so I can easily switch from the 250LB pull magnet to the 150lb magnet. (which I never use)
Also I suggest putting your magnet into a heavy duty zip lock bag to make cleaning small particles off it easier.

To me. It Looks like you need longer tongs. Plus real s/s sharp tongs for easy digging in any type of bottom. I've seen spawning fish dig up bottles 6 inches under the bottom and then live in them. Most stuff gets covered as we all know. The handle should be thinner for feeling the bottom. Just my thoughts on it.

I have just today ordered two magnets from K&J Magnetics. No sales pitch here, I just got the company name and endorsement from a Utube video. Brand new to this and my wife and I thought we'd give this a try. We live close to a river that had some Civil War action. Any ideas or tips from some of you veteran Magnateers?

This set-up works great! I have 905 pounds total pulling. It rights itself every time. I'm able to throw it 50 - 65 feet. I'm going to build another one similar, but instead of 2" pvc, I will use 1 1/2" and I'm not going to use the metal piece in the middle, instead I will mount directly to pipe.

Hi! I'm new here on the forum. As I'm all into Magnet Fishing, I thought that I would just show off my rig as my first post.
It's a double faced neodymium magnet with a total power of 400kg (~880lbs). I love this one because of it's multi purpose design. Here it is:

are you asking about the PVC pipe in post #15?
It is a good idea but make it a bit bulky. When you throw the magnet in the water it will either land heads or tails. With the float it will always land heads up so the magnets hit the dirt.
