Last week I was Detecting an Old Park in Sacramento and found a Diamond Pendant, thought it to be Junk at first, after cleaning it up a little and looking at the back I found what I thought at first as being 925 for Silver and then I thought can't be Silver it only hit at Pulltab on my 6000 Pro. Did a little research and found that they mark Platinum with numbers such as 850, 900, 950 meaning the % of Platinum 85%, 90%, 95% as you can tell from Pic it looks like maybe 920 could it be 92% Platinum.
Can any of you Jewelry Experts help with this?
Thanks; John

Re: Possibly Platinum?

That's a NICE lookin' pendant. Don't know anything about it, but to my untrained eye...looks expensive...lol, sorry no help. HH

Re: Possibly Platinum?

The 920 is most likely 920/1000 parts of silver. But I'm not sure :-\
My 2 cents

Re: Possibly Platinum?

In the e-bay guide for silver marks it indicates that .925 is the mark for sterling silver and that marks from 920 and up are for silver less than sterling. Looks like it is going to be silver not platinum but I am less than a "sterling" expert...lol

Nice find

Re: Possibly Platinum?

I'd say it's most likely silver. The 1st pic looks like it may have a gold plating over the silver. Just because your meter showed pulltab doesn't mean it's not silver. It may just be small enough and light enough to register lower on he VID. Just my 2 cents.

cant see the photo !!!

Re: Possibly Platinum?

If it was platinum the diamonds would be real...are they? Great find either way! :)

Re: Possibly Platinum?

Thanks to everybody for their replies, Maybe it is silver just may be to small of surface area to read any higher than Pull-tab. Need to get one of those Diamond Testers!

Re: Possibly Platinum?

It's gorgeous no matter what! Congrats on a great find! My vote is that it's silver. Not sure about the stones though. Take it to a jeweler for sure. Let us know what you find out.

Re: Possibly Platinum?

My sister owns a jewelry store. I sent her your photos.
Here's her evaluation.

the marking 925 indicates Sterling silver. Usually a marking from outside the US. Often an item that looks yellow but is marked 925 is plated with yellow gold over sterling often called "Vermeil" (pronounced ver-may) My guess is it is stamped 925 and it looks like 920. An acid test would be my next step just to be sure. Also if the diamonds were not real then its a pretty good guess that it is sterling.

Re: Possibly Platinum?

BTW, the stones could still be real. They may be almost classed as industrial grade though...lots of inclusions, slight fracturings, milky, etc.

Re: Possibly Platinum?

I would be happy to find it.

Re: Possibly Platinum?

King-John,
I use an Ace 250 and all of my silver jewelry (except for one silver ring) has registered in the gold/pulltab range. I'm not sure why but that has been my experience.
I can't make any judgments on your piece as I know little about jewelry but just wanted to say that it is possible to have silver register as gold.
Nice find.

With all the Rain we have been having, I got a chance to Take a couple of more picks at different angels.
Pendant is 925 Silver I guess that means Diamonds are probably CZ :'(
