Possibly masonic Badge - anyone know any more?

Also from the same auction as the Book plate was this old badge, which looks vaguely Masonic - anyone know any more? Base measures just over 2.5 inches and the writing on the back reads: "Presented By Compn J Candry PCS to St Mary's Chapter 1870" I think. Masonic Badge 1.JPGMasonic Badge 2.JPG
 

It is related to York Rite Freemasonry. York Rite consists of three main groups; Royal Arch, Cryptic; and Knights Templar. The first two use the Triangle symbol. "Companions" are members of Royal Arch Chapters. What throws me off is the crown in the center of the Triangle, which nowadays is used in the Knights Templar. It is possible that symbols have changed a bit over the years.

So is 1870 a date or a chapter number?
