Im leaning towards "no" since I can see no writing or detail. IT is completely smooth on both sides so no evidence of a rivet or button. Seems to be made of copper and is very small. Anyone have an idea what else it could be?

I found it at a homesite that was built around the 1850s and the property was inhabited (in newer house on same property) up until recently when it was abandoned.... Ill be posting a separate thread about it but WOW is there loads of trash in the ground--- frustrating day to say the least

Kinda looks like a small flat button to me

Would guess flat button. Does the other side have a small mark where shank would have been?:dontknow:

No it's not a button. Both sides are perfectly smooth. No evidence of any shank

doubtful it's a coin, but looks like it could stand a little more cleaning. about the only thing that small would be a 3 cent silver

Strange... you're right. it does look pretty smooth. But the only thing I can see it being is a very small cuff button.

I almost went cross eyed trying to see if there was any detail with my 10x but I didn't make anything definite out. It has an edge like a coin and I cleaned it off more in the centers and definitely no marks indicating it was ever a button

It is exactly .5 inches in diameter

I'll hold out hope that it is a silver 3-cent piece.
Your stated diameter (12.7 mm) is close to the standard diameter of the coin (14 mm).
The difference could be easily explained away with its condition.
And your belief that it's copper may be due to the 3-cent coin (Variety 1) being 25% copper and it being tarnished.
Don.......
