Guys, yesterday with Luke (PACIVILWARLUKE), I could've dug an extremely rare button. Possibly my best button yet... the lady on the button is named Jenny Lind (the text around her head shows her full name). Here's a little bit of history about her. Jenny was born in Sweden in 1820. She was a soprano opera singer and was one of the most admired singers of the 1800s. She began singing at the age of 10 and toured Europe in the 1830s and 1840s. In 1850 she sailed to the United States, when she arrived on the docks of New York City, she was greeted by a massive crowd of 30,000 people which shows how publicized and talented she was. She ended up touring the United States east cost from 1850-1852 then sailed back to Europe, got married, settled in England, and had a 3 kids. She then became a professor for singing at the Royal College of Music and died in 1887. I am thinking this was worn by a fan of her work and wanted to support her! It's not in any button books or online, I've never heard of one dug so I'm calling it a one-of-a-kind button and the history behind it is cool! This narrows down the date to the early 1850s and could've been worn by a civil war soldier promoting her... the site we were on was occupied by soldiers. Thanks for reading take care everyone! Happy Hunting!

Very cool find :icon_thumleft:

great find, your theory about the soldier could be accurate judging on the awesome 3 ringer in the pile of loot you scored!

great stuff!

Congratulations on the excellent find!!

I have a book called "The Complete Button Book" (Albert / Kent) that looks to show one like it - but I agree that it must be a rare button b/c there is a drawing to illustrate it and not a photo - which is unusual for this book.

Here is the entry, page 272

I just saw this on insta, congrats!

Hey man, really enjoyed having you in the lowcountry! That button is INCREDIBLE! While we we hoping for some definite confederate buttons, I'm sure this is more rare than your typical CS state or central govt button! I think it is a true slice of history, we sure had fun researching her life! That the only evidence of it is an illustration in the Alberts book goes to show the rarity of that relic. WTG!!

You guys never cease to amaze me. I'm honestly impressed. Can't believe I missed this! Just saying guys, because this is in a book and there's no pictures and only a basic drawing to show what it may look like, it has to be EXTREMELY rare!!!!! It's cuff sized and it is pushed in. It's obviously a LOT more scarce than the bucket lister I was hoping to cross off, a confederate button. I'm a happy camper! Thanks so much everyone!!! HH

Nice Button, always safer to say 'Extremely Rare' - Congrats

Great button and good story. I hope you can send pictures to someone and get some answers on rarity, that would be a great follow up.

Very interesting find and I agree with what you all said about the drawing, that does seem like it would be super rare if they didn't have a photo of one. I love it!

We have a town here in the California Gold Country named after her. Congrats on a very rare find!

Cool button, congrats.

Great find :) I would be very happy to have found something so nice Congratulations!
