My wife was telling me about a well like structure in the woods she saw while deer hunting. It was about 40' wide and about 2 stories deep. It is round and has brick sides. I would need climbing equipment to get to it but I have been a rock climber in the past and am confident I can get in and out safely. These are her aproxamate measurements. I was wondering if anyone might know what it is and if it might be a good spot to detect?

I checked both the topos and aerial photos and found noth except a building in the area in 1977 when the topo was done but nothing in 1993 when the aerial was taken. Maybe they are linked.

The wife also said it is a dry bottom. I am not sure if it leads to something else or not but I am going to check it out without the detector first.

I was in the area of the "well" today. It is about 40 feet in diameter and about 15 feet deep. there is an old built in ladder and bolts that held something on top. It is mado of concrete. My best guess is that it was used for water or something for the rail road or the coke ovens at he bottom of the hill. But that still doesn't make sense because there is a dab alot closer built for the coke ovens. I didn't have the digital cam with me or I would have taken some pics.

if your going to decend down into a place like that
use extream caution as gasses of all types
may tend to build up.

I am going to the county courthouse and county historical sociey on tuesday and I will be checking out the maps and news article for the county to see what leads I can get.
