This is a good one. I am up in the air on this find, but I am thinking it could possibly be the upper part of the firing mechanism for a shattered old flint type of gun....or it is a piece of a shattered shock from an old motorcycle. It is about 6.5 inches long, and 1.5 inches wide. Found in the Aberdeen, Maryland/(upper Chesapeake Bay) area near where reported colonial sites used to be.

What do you think?

Wow you gave it the green check after one guess.

I was thinking that it closely resembles part of a sickle bar mower.

That is possible too thanks. It's not a piece of a gun, its trash so I am cool with it. Funny how rust and time can make objects sometimes appear different than what they are ha ha.

No problem armymusician. The imagination is what makes this hobby fascinating. Monty

big city, I think Witt means it is a hinge where the smaller left hand arrangement folds under the stamped steel, similar to what you might find on an old chest freezer?
