So I found a possible huge gold score. Someone has posted this Jesus pendant on Craigslist. It is huge, and marked 14k I'm just not sure how to approach this. If I see it in person, I'm not sure if I can trust my gut and walk away even if I feel it isn't 100% real. What would be some good ways to know other than magnet testing, density from feel, coloring and wear? If this all checks out, it could still be a heavy plating... I can't take it to a jeweler because then the guy will know he's not getting a good price for it.
Here is his description off craigslist "Large beautiful detailed gold tone Crucifix Pendant I purchased in 1999, it is hallmarked 14k although I believe it is not therefore I am selling it for exactly what I paid for it at that time. It measures overall approx. 4.75"L x 3"W. If I remember correctly it weighs just over an ounce.
Really nice inspirational piece.*
$125.00 Cash Only Firm.*"
My first step is to give him a call and feel him out, ask why he feels it isn't solid and genuine. I would be happy to hear any remarks about this piece and if u think it looks genuine. Looks right to me, can't find anything online like it though... Also keep in mind that back in 99 gold was only $270 an oz... So the original $125 wasn't too far off melt value. Thanks in advance!!!
