I have this coins, it's from maybe 1700s. It's gold/brass colored and on one side it has an old ship and the other a persons face and it says LVD.XV.D.G not much more is visible. It also has some sort of black rust/corrosion on it so it's hard to id it. What could this be? The coin is about 20 mm in diameter. coinid.png

I think its a coin rather than a jetton as the French jettons went in for "God save the King" type messages but yours is more formal. Your inscription is "Louis by Favour of God, King of...." . Should have FR next for France. I would check out the coins of Louis XV (1715 on) first.

It is a jeton. I've owned a bunch of them.

Nurnberg Brass Jeton Louis XV (1715-1774) Bust / Shi (11/01/2010)...

18th Century Brass Jeton
Up for sale is a nice 18th Century Brass Jeton from the reign of Louis XV (1715-1774). It is from Nurnberg and measures approximately 20mm in diameter. I purchased this coin about 20 years ago from a local coin dealer and all I know about it is what is written on the envelope. There is the bust of Louis XV on one side and a nice sailing ship on the other. This circulated 18th century coin appears to be in Fine Condition (see photos and judge for yourself).
