In a different layer along the glacial moraine? i found this what appears to be a nut cracker hammer or bone splitter hammer. I know its hard to see, the top is almost knapped round and the bottom is a V. There is a chip out of the V however. I also included a side view.

The other flint type rock I found next to the artifact. I believe it was carried to be used later. Both were found in Ohio approximately one mile from lake Erie. Any feedback is most appreciated. I have had these for years.

Thank for looking,
Cap Z.

Sorry but, they look like unaltered, glacial flint cobbles to me. JMHO.

Very bad photo..I'll try to get a clearer one etc. I did actually see a similar one at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History..years ago. I think if I am right it is rare. I'd be happy to send it to you to evaluate along with the other piece.

Are you trustworthy?

Cappy, yes I am trustworthy but, no need to send it to me. Thanks for offering though. Maybe try to get some better pics but, they just look natural to me. Just my 2 cents.

Like I said in my last post. it looks like naturally formed stone to me. Again, Just my opinion. Just trying to help you. John

I looked at the pictures of your so called "bone Crusher, splitter", and it may be natural, hard to tell because of the pictures. If you look online at the the Pacific Rim Online Paleo artifacts page under the stoneage museum you will find pieces that are similar in nature to your bone crusher. There are lots of artifacts out there that look like nothing that really are something. You should be able to see chipping or reworking along the edges of the supposed chopper side, and the artifact should fit in the hand well. There may be smoothing, or there may not be, but it looks like a crude chopper to me. I would have to look at it closely to see if there had been chipping or pecking on it though. The rounded glacial till rock that looks rounded, I am not so sure about that one. Good luck..

It's not natural, I have one almost identical. Mine has tie notches and a tie pattern has been established. I see hafting marks on yours...

It's a stone axe head just like mine. I will post pictures soon.

It doesn't fit in your hand well because it ties on to a handle! If you look close you should find tie notches and a pattern based on location of notches. Match that to the haft lines and you can see what it is.

The wide v shape is the bottom the narrow v shape is back end the wide crescent is the top and the narrow crescent is the front edge. The last picture you posted shows the best angle but you have it pointing up.

Welcome to the forum David!..........................GTP

In that last pic. you see two good size hafting marks for the handle, notice they are at a slightly backward angle toward the point. That is the angle that it sat on the handle. Put a stick there at that angle and you will see what I. Mean.

Where are these threads coming from today? Is this a mod. With not much to do?

No it was a new member i guess checking out the forum and got lost??? As far as Trev's post I had to give it a bump on his find to show Tn that he did make banner, but apparently did not get credit for it on his icon. So we were trying to straighten that out...................
