DSC_2086e.jpgDSC_2087e.jpg Found this in a pond. Anyone found one of these or got any information about them? It's 3" with a crown and rose and says Port Royal 1692. The style of text doesn't look old and it's probably commemorative but for what and when? Port Royal, South Carolina perhaps?

Wouldn't be SC with the crown and tudor rose. Could be Port Royal Nova Scotia, or maybe commemorates the 300th anniversary of the Jamaica earthquake.... which is sort of strange but it fits. I guess maybe it's thought of as a new beginning.

Thanks, I found out that it's a modern souvenir of no value made by Things Jamaican.

That makes far more sense to me than Jamaica since I found it in SC. I'll do some research, thanks

Yes, it's a Jamaican souvenir. Funny that it should end up in a pond in SC. I guess it proves that you never know what you'll find where!

Just found the same with 1692 in my garden this morning. Found another of the same size with a horse in the middle and will try to get pics. They were one on top of the other.

I'm in Nova Scotia so that narrows it Down I believe.

I have one of these, on the back it says MARTINS. JAMAICA stamped with a set of hammered chisel letters I think

I've lived on the gulf coast all my life and from what I've read, these medallions seem to be pretty common. But the one I found is in fairly good shape. I would be willing to part with it but I'm not sure how to post a pic of it.

The pewter coin 3" in diameter with a rose in the middle and "Port Royal" at the top and "1692" at the bottom is commemorative of the 1692 earthquake in Port Royal, Jamaica. The 3" "coins" that I have (6 of them) were actually used as coasters.

I'm new to this forum and not sure my reply got posted. I said:
