All the failures of equipment and miscues by miners are scripted. Its all part of the BS idea that to be good television, everything must be over dramatized, and over-massaged to appeal to a wider audience. Same kind of thinking produced Jar-jar Binks.

Save the drama for your momma. I just want to see mining/prospecting methods and learn about the scene in general. If I want to watch a soap opera, there are loads of them on youtube!

The guy who used to do the show about the dirtiest jobs needs to do a show about mining and prospecting.

"Dirty Jobs" has been CX'ed, although Mike Rowe is still a pretty busy guy. He still narrates all of the "Deadliest Catch" shows and others. Not to mention all the Ford commercials. I do see a connection though, FORD and GOLD RUSH already seem to have a close marriage.

You are correct though, too much drama ....still. Did they really build the self proclaimed "Alaska's biggest Tromel" with what looked like a 3 cylinder Kubota 50HP engine on it (OK it looked bigger then that, ...but not by much)? THey need a turbo charged 8 cylinder bright yellow Caterpillar singing its tune with all the material they plan to shove through it.

Where's Jar-Jar Binks when you need him?

Parker makes the show worth watching for me... I seriously wouldn't be watching this season if it weren't for him. He finds gold and everyone else argues and works on their equipment all day.

My wife sat with me when I watched that last show...as they started the mega-trommel, I said "they'll have to shut down for some sort of problem in the first few hours - you don't "invent" something this big and complex without some shakedown problems" ...little did I know they would only make it 20 minutes!
