Hey everyone,

I was just curious how long it took everyone before they found their first gold item in detecting.? It doesn't have to be pure gold at all, gold plate will count as far as this pole is concerned.? I started the pole because I haven't found any gold yet as was wondering how long (roughly) I could expect to wait for that glorious day :)

Hunted for about a year with a detector that I got for Christmas and never found gold.
Bought my DFX and found a gold class ring 1st time out at an old jr high school. Still looking
for the owner of that ring too. It is from 1969 and I am still hoping to find the owner.
I live in NE TX and so far this year every time the weather is warm enough to hunt it rains!
Oh Well...better times ahead.

well... been detecting maybe 6 years now.
? ?Found my first solid gold item (a wide, but small in dia. wedding band with a monogram on the outside of the ring) about 2-3 years after i first started detecting. and about a year and a half later found a medium gold ring with over 25 small ,real diamonds.
? ?
? I am a lazy person & never really set out to look for gold that much. I'd sometimes say to myself "I'm gonna find something gold" & the search would only last a few outings and after getting tired of finding nothing but trash, I'd stop for months.?
? ?The first gold ring was found by accident (thought i was digging up an old civil war type bullet as there were some found in the area) .....it? was not an OLD ring (maybe 50 yrs old tops).
? The second gold ring (with diamonds) was found on one of my "I'm gonna specifically look for gold" outings .... was really supprised when i actually found one..... it wasnt marked & I automatically assumed that the gold and dimonds werent real, but had the diamonds checked out & they turned out to be real.

Havent found anymore gold since (I am a land hunter).

Dont think I have ever found a gold plated item.

WhooooWhaaaaa! ;D

I found my first gold yesterday in an area that you guys recommended,....at a public park near a lake shoreline that's used for swimming in the summer. I found an earring, small hoop, with what looks like yellow, white, and rose gold on it. It's hollow so it's not much BUT....it's gold ;D

Anyhow, I'll post the pic later this evening when I get a chance.

Later this evening :) Here you go:

Well,

I ordered me a pair of insulated waiders just now :)

I'll be in the water as soon as those babies hit my door step. I can't wait!

I have found most of my gold in the park playgrounds around town. Don't overlook volleyball courts for watches and bracelets but expect a few signals that go right through the scoop everytime. These are the various components of the body piercing type. Tongue studs, nose/eye and the belly button stud. Beaches and water areas may hold the most potential but a playground be it woodchips or sand has the highest concentrations of jewelry by my experience and they are fairly well defined so it's a quick hit or miss type of hunt.

My first gold was a plain 10k wedding band that was curbside at a major intersection during sidewalk work some years ago. My guess is the red light gave someone long enough to contemplate and decide the fate of their relationship on that one.

Interesting that you say the playgrounds are the best in your experience? I have hit 10 playgrounds in my area and have found,...."0". Not even any change! OH,...sorry, I did find an "old navy" pocket button off of someones clothing. That's it. I guess I just have not found the right playgrounds yet :)

Thanks for the advice though!

I'v had luck with Silver Rings & Junk Jewelry under Bleachers, at Ball Fields. May be a few Gold ones under some of them somwhere

i havent done alot of detecting yet, but i did find a gold plated bulls head off ibelieve was a belt buckel, the site, the made charcoal for the iron ore mines from the 1860 to around 1910 dont now exactly what years this particular site was used but in that range the base metal appears to be lead. cant wait for the snow to melt to get back to this site there bound to be plenty of coins here, iguess the workers lived on site. i guess ill have to try and download a pict.it was only 2' down alot of the iron found was up to 10 to 12 inchs down but that was right at the kilns

I found gold plated ancient ring second day. Real gold ring at around 6 months but I answered the poll for gold coin which was 13 months to the day

1st gold I ever found was a mans 14kt ring, black onyx with 2 small diamonds, found at a church next to the parking lot approx. 3 inches down. It took probably 6 or 7 yrs before finding a good piece like that. I had found several 'plated' pieces before that and some silver pieces.. Have found several silver and gold pieces of jewelry at play grounds, schools, volley ball courts and parks where people picnic and the like (mostly rings but, some other types too). Beaches haven't been good to me thru the years (the main reason I believe) is because several other guys hit them hard (as I always see them when I'm out there too). The water has produced some gold and some silver rings, etc. but over all, I'd say it's about a 50/50 split between the water and the play grounds/parks for me..

I found a flat link 15" 14k gold chain in the same hole as a clad penny! I had had my detector about 4 hrs! Now that it's been about a month I haven't found much of anything else except clad coins and a bunch of Hot Wheels cars. I'm still looking for my first silver coin! I did find a chunk of non-ferrous metal that the consensus believes it to be silver. Haven't been able to prove or disprove one way or the other.

Sorry about that everyone. I just realized I never posted the pic of that gold earring I said I found.

Here it is:
