Politics, Religion, Personal Rants - Where did the Rubber Room go?

Sounds good to me. Why can't you make the Rubber Room etc members only?

Just asking...

That is a pretty good idea... to avoid flamers, and trolls, I have restricted posting in the Rubber Room, to Charter Members, and Full Members (100+ posts) and up.

The Rubber Room is back!

Please read the notice at the top. (in not such fine print!) :P

We understand politics, religion, prophesy, and personal rants can sometimes become heated subjects. Because we don't have the man power to micro manage these hot-topic forums, we reserve the right to delete entire threads in these forums that become unruly, or contain personal attacks or even disparaging personal comments. PLEASE DO NOT ASK US WHY SOMETHING GETS DELETED! YOU WILL NOT GET AN ANSWER! PLEASE DO NOT POST "WHY WAS MY THREAD DELETED"! If a thread does get deleted, it's most likely because someone posted something that violated our terms of use. If you are warned repeatedly of this type of bad behavior, you will be banned from these forums. Thank you for helping us maintain a thoughtful and friendly atmosphere here.

If you prefer to ignore any board, including this one, simply go into your profile and click on Ignore Board Preferences, on the left side of your profile, and select the name of the forum you wish to ignore.

Thanks!
Marc

I noticed the stickys for them! That is great! Thanks for taking such good care of us! ~hugs~

I am an Admin on a few other sites where politics and religion are hot subjects and Marc's right, it screws with your sponsors and in some cases it gets your site listed on an "adult" oriented list and then comes the firewall blocks and school censor programs and Government computers being unable to log on. Complaining here does nothing. Admins do what we do for EVERYBODY not just you and you and you but not you.

I suppose it could be handled like the porn and gore threads were handled on another site I post at. The board becomes a masked board and is listed invisible to members unless they are invited and placed into a custom membergroup that can view it. The board could even be made invisible to bots so the Google Gods won't blacklist it. Takes some finageling of the CP but it can be done especially here on an SMF forum. ALL forums should be so easy to use from the top end. I really can't stand phpbb. Drives me nuts trying to do even the simplest thing like upload smilies. Anyways, my 2 cents is if it's going to kill off Charter members to lose it, then it's worth keeping. They pay the bills here so they are sort of like stockholders and their opinions are more important than posters like me who have paid nothing into upkeep. (that will change soon BTW  )

Make it a hidden board like the Moderator and Admin areas, let those who wish to post do so as a membergroup option. That way those who don't like it don't even have to see it, those who like only it can post like crazy. Hire a couple of dedicated members here, Charter preferably, as Moderators. Best of both worlds.
Or not.
I'm not a Charter so my input is really sort of moot.

My 2 cents.

hope i didn,t say anything stupid ive been known to. sorry if i did,i,ll go to my room now.

I must throw in my vote of agreement for making the controversial topics available to paid members only.

It would be on the same theory as Skinamax err, Cinemax, HBO et al.

You are paying to step past the public access line where you will not accidentally view a hot button topic. The forums, Rubber Room, Religion, Politics and such will be members only, yet still moderated. You have to pay to get in.

The 'family treasure hunting' area is open to all who wish to explore.

I do like my daily diversion of off topic subject matter. I would rather not have to bounce around from forum to forum to get my daily dose. Thanks for listening and putting the Rubber Room back up, this is a great site.

I agree with that!!! the rubber room-members only! that will def keep out some of the hit and run surfers that provoke alot of the problems., you wanna say you gotta pay.

Shoot, why not just make the whole site charter only. Then for the Rubber Room you could allow only those with 10,000 posts.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking like that...

I'm not. Just strikes me as odd how so many people want things restricted, as long as it doesn't affect THEM.

pay up,thats all I,m sayin. Click Click easy as that

Yeah, I was waiting on that. IF I ever decide to become a charter member, it WILL NOT be because I was shamed into it.

Access to all members - yes, not just charter members.

But - I can see keeping it from lurkers or non-members using spiders.

Funny how certain members are on for a little over a year, then start laying in on people like they've been on forever... what, because they dropped 20 bucks and think they are special now? Well, maybe they are "special"... but that still doesn't mean everyone likes you. ;D

So is your pompous attitude. ::)

I think if someone has something to say it should'nt matter if they have two posts or 20,000 - they outta be free to say it.
